What did you want to be when you grew up?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated by stories of missionaries. I would read missionary biographies as a little girl and was intrigued by these men and women, serving God and sharing the Gospel in exotic, far-away lands. Missionaries are rockstars in my mind. I have always been curious about their lives and their calling, and I especially admire their love for God and the people they serve.

Now, as an adult, I have several friends who serve as missionaries and you know what? I still think they are rockstars…and I’m just as fascinated now as I was when I was 8-years-old! There have been times when my husband and I have wondered if God may be calling us into missions type work. God’s answer to that appears to be ‘no’ or at least, ‘not yet.’

Even if God isn’t calling us into the missions field, He has shown us how we can help be the “hands and feet” of Jesus: We can pray regularly for missionaries, and we can support them financially. This allows us to share in the missionary ‘experience’ and take part personally in the work God is doing around the world!

During our second adoption journey, God allowed our paths to cross with another adoptive family. The Fisher family (pictured below) has now been called as missionaries to Chile. They are in the process of raising support so they can complete training and be sent out. As I have followed their recent exploration trip, they have given me a heart for the people of Northern Chile. I am praying God will move mountains and raise the funds they need to move forward with their calling. They’re getting close!

“To be fully funded, we need approximately 54 people to support us at $100/month (or 27 at $200 or 108 at $50 or 216 at $25…you get the idea!). $100 a month approximates $3 and change a day…for around the cost of a daily Starbucks drink, God could use YOU to reach women in Chile who are pregnant and without hope through the groundbreaking and brand new Florece Prenatal and Family Counseling Center, of which we will be a part. Would you pray about joining hands with us in ministry to Northern Chile? No amount is too small when given out of a heart to reach the lost with the Gospel. Thank you!” Dave and Terri, Fishers2Chile Facebook page

Dave and Terri just returned from an exploration trip to Chile last month. They shared about their visit and the opportunities God has ready for them to serve in Chile on Facebook, and you can learn more about them here: http://www.fishers2chile.abwe.org/.

Would you pray for the Fishers? Would you consider supporting them in ministry to Chile?

I don’t know about you, but there’s just something amazing about making an impact for eternity…and that’s probably why missionaries proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ hold a special place in my heart.
