I often underestimate my abilities. Maybe I am just being cautious, but more likely, I am afraid of failing. I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of others.

When it comes to pull-ups, I always used the “Assisted Pull-Up” Machine at the gym, the one that gives you the little bench and you can set the weight to help off-set some of my bodyweight. One day, last summer, my personal trainer suggested I try doing a pull-up on my own – no bench, no machine, just me.

This is what happened.

You never know until you try.

It’s little “mile markers” like this in my fitness journey that keep me motivated. I still worry about failing – but even if I do, so what? At least I tried. And I will keep trying until I get it.
